KGFW Sports – Huskers Top Buckeyes, 100 for Eighmey and High School Update

The Nebraska women’s basketball team upset nationally ranked, and previously unbeaten, Ohio State 63-55 Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Senior center Kate Cain nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocked shots. The Husker women will host Minnesota tomorrow afternoon at 3:00.

The 6th ranked Nebraska wrestling team fell to top-ranked Iowa, 6-31, Friday night in Iowa City, Iowa. The Huskers return home this Saturday to host a triangular with Maryland and Northwestern at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The meet kicks off two consecutive weekends of home wrestling competition for Nebraska.

The 5th ranked Nebraska volleyball team will open the 2020-21 season with a two-match series at Indiana this Friday and Saturday. Nebraska’s 22-match Big Ten-only schedule features eight matches against teams ranked in the top 25 and six ranked in the top 10.

In Husker football news;

A record-high 12 early enrollees in the 2021 recruiting class are set to arrive on campus this month.

Nebraska tight end signee Thomas Fidone has been named 2020 MaxPreps Iowa High School Player of the Year.

The UNK men and 5th ranked Loper women’s basketball team hosted Northwest Missouri State Saturday. The men were upended by the defending national champions 73-63. The Loper women improved to 10-and-0 on the season with a dominating 59-35 win. This was Carrie Eighmey’s 100th win as head coach at UNK. The Loper basketball teams travel to Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern this week.

The 2nd-ranked UNK wrestling team cruised to an easy 43-3 win over Chadron State Saturday afternoon in Cushing Coliseum. The Lopers will host the Midwest Duals this weekend at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. The Lopers are currently scheduled to face Adams State, Colorado-State Pueblo and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Saturday.

The Tri-City Storm took 2-of-3 from the Fargo Force in North Dakota this past weekend. The Storm’s return home this Friday with a game against the Lincoln Stars at the Viaero Center.
