NE Strong UPDATE

By News Sep 16, 2020 | 6:42 AM

The Hastings Downtown Center Association announced they are canceling the annual trick-or-treat event and the Celebration of Lights festival due to health concerns. Both events take place over a couple hours causing a lot of crowding in the streets. For the Celebration of Lights, there are also large groups for performances that were a concern. Even though the county will move to ‘Phase 4’ this month the association believed it was the safest way to keep the virus from spreading.

With the area moving to Phase Four of Covid19 response Hastings College has updated its Event and Venue operations guidelines. Outdoor venues will now be allowed 100 percent capacity with Indoor venues at 75 percent. All fans will still be required to wear masks. The Bronco volleyball team is in action tonight hosting Midland. The Bronco football team is at Concordia on Saturday.

Husker Harvest Days is underway, for the first time virtually. The Farm Progress Virtual Experience (FPVX) is a free, combined show between Farm Progress and Husker Harvest Days that offers “attendees” everything that would be available at a traditional Husker Harvest Days other than the in-person experience.

Yanney Heritage Park in Kearney has started the groundwork for a 12 acre botanical garden, which will provide a space for education as well as bring more activity to the park. Phase 1 is expected to be complete Summer 2021.
