NE Strong UPDATE

The University of Nebraska at Kearney will open 2021 with an optional three-week intersession, followed by a full spring semester on Jan. 25. The three-week intersession would occur Jan. 4-22. First day of spring semester classes is Jan. 25. Last day of class (final exam week) is May 6, with commencement on May 7. There will also be no Spring break, that traditionally would have been scheduled for March 14-21. Details on the academic calendar are available on the UNK web site.

 After closing for six months due to COVID-19, the Literacy Council of Grand Island has reopened with limited services in its brand new building at 115 W. Charles St. The new space has large classrooms and a community connection center. The Literacy Council currently serves more than 700 students from over 35 countries. 

The public can attend a ceremony in Hastings on the 19th anniversary of 9/11. It will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 at Hastings Fire and Rescue Station #2 at 1145 S. Hastings Ave. The ceremony will be in the north parking lot with a limited capacity of 50 people, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Those who attend will be seated six feet apart with masks required as well. Those who want to attend are asked to park on South Hastings Avenue and enter through the west entrance point. To reserve a seat, please call Livingston Butler-Volland Funeral Home at 402-461-8027.
