NE Strong UPDATE

Despite circulating rumors, some COVID-19 results from Test Nebraska have not been misplaced. Nebraska DHHS said Tuesday that a data system error failed to push results from Aug. 19 to the 23rd through to the State’s collection system. The error caused some people to receive automated notices, referencing lost test results, and asking them to retest. The error has since been corrected and the results delivered.

Broken Bow Public Schools is relaunching their school year as classes begin again after they shut down when three staff members tested positive for the coronavirus and 24 had to quarantine.   Now, students and staff are back in the school with a mask mandate until at least September 7th.

The Nebraska State Fair has partnered with Hy-Vee and are asking those who attend the fair this year to bring at least one canned good to donate to the “Harvest for Hunger Food Drive. All donations will be split between the Salvation Army, St. Mary’s, Blessed Sacrament and Spirit of Life Food Pantries, where they hopeto refill shelves that have been emptied due to COVID-19. Those wishing to participate can drop off their canned goods in one of the Hy-Vee shopping carts at the state fair entrance between Aug. 28 and Sept. 7.

The UNK Athletic Department has developed a new mobile app for Loper fans. The new app will provide access to game day content like schedules, stats, roster, fan guides and more. The new app will also feature new promotional offers from various Loper Athletics sponsors.

Kearney Catholic softball held its home opener Tuesday evening. It’s the third year for the program and this season they will be without their only coach in team history, Russ Hiemstra. Coach Hiemstra past away this spring after multiple strokes. Tuesday evening, Kearney Catholic honored Coach Hiemstra with a bench dedicated in his name at Patriot Park with a quote to remember him by, “You don’t need to tell them you’re good. Let people tell you… You are good.”. His wife Shaun threw out the first pitch of the night to his son Mitch.  And the night ended with the stars taking home a 12-0 win in 3 innings over Centura Central Valley.
