NE Strong UPDATE

American Legion Riders Chapter 53 of Grand Island, Nebraska are hosting their 1st Annual Freedom and Independence ride this Saturday August 22nd. Registration starts at 8:15am and ride departs at 10:00am. It is about a 3 hour ride with a couple of stops, a meal, and more. All are welcome to participate. Proceeds will benefit the veteran’s hospital in Grand island, the veteran’s home in Kearney, the Legacy Scholarship fund for gold star families, and the Legion Riders Chapter in Grand Island, Nebraska. The Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled for Oct. 4th at Lincoln East High School has been postponed because of coronavirus concerns. The induction ceremony has tentatively been rescheduled on April 18th, 2021.

The NAIA has announced the rescheduled dates for its fall sports championships. The Football title game will be on May 10 in Grambling, Louisiana. Sioux City, Iowa, will host the NAIA volleyball tournament April 27-May 1. The men’s soccer championships will be May 4-10 in Columbia County, Georgia. The women’s soccer championships will take place April 27-May 3 in Foley, Alabama. Cross Country will be April 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

NRG Media Central Nebraska recently won two Gold Medals from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. KSYZ won gold for service to children for the event “The Big Grape” which raises money and awareness for juvenille diabetes. KGFW’s Ryan Boyd won gold for spot news.
