NWS Peace Program
April 30, 2014
Name of Program: NWS PEACE Program
Details of Program: NWS PEACE Program is a non-profit and Department of State approved program seeking caring families in our area to host high school age international exchange students! These students are now available for "adoption" for 5-12 months. Students come with medical insurance and spending money. You provide a loving home, care and guidance, 3 meals a day, a bed, and an experience of a life time for your family as well as the student!
There is no such thing as a typical host family! Whether you're a single parent, retired, have small children, teens, or no children, you can have a great experience hosting an international teen!
Why should your family host an exchange student?
- to learn about another country and the customs of its people
- to teach a young adult about the customs of Americans
- to experience being a parent to an adolescent
- to learn about your own cultural heritage
- to create an opportunity to travel abroad
- to expose your children to a different culture
- to promote world peace
Host families provide a nurturing home-life for a high school-age international teen for 5 to 10 months while the student attends the local high school.
Host families are volunteers who share their hearts and homes. Families are expected to provide:
- a safe and loving environment
- a bedroom with storage space (a student can share a room with another teenager)
- reasonable transportation to/from school activities.
Start the wonderful world of cultural exchange - contact NW Services and have one of our local coordinators answer all your questions and show you some of our available students.

Name of Event: Clean Shave Night Who is Putting on Event: Mustaches4Kids Hastings Date of Event: 5-1-2014 Time of Event: 7:00 pm Location of Event: Rivals Bar, Hastings, NE Details of Event: Mustaches for Kids Hastings is the local chapter of Mustaches for Kids, a volunteer-run organization started in Los Angeles in 1999 to do good and have fun by growing Mustaches for children's charities. The concept is pretty simple, you get pledges/donations to grow a mustache for one month. All the money raised during this fundraiser is donated to a local children's charity. This year's charity is Camp Hot Shots - Central Nebraska.
At the end of the growing season, we have Stache Bash, a mustache-themed costume party during which we crown the winner of the coveted "Sweetest Stache" and hand out other awards that are cherished by the recipients. So it's all pretty simple: mustache, charity, and competition infused with meaningless pageantry. You can spare four weeks of your life for that.
Details of Event: The Hastings Community Foundation will host the first-ever “Give Hastings Day” on May 1st, 2014. This 24-hour online giving event will raise funds for non-profits in the Hastings area. Donors will connect to charitable causes that they care about through a single online donation platform. The campaign will encourage people to learn more about giving opportunities in the area and take action. The mission of the Hastings Community Foundation is to support community needs through the promotion and management of charitable giving. This event will celebrate contributions of all levels. The Foundation has received matching dollars for the event from local sources and sources outside of the community. If your non-profit organization is interested in participating in this online fundraising event email info(at)givehastings(dot)org.
